Textures

As with all drywall texture styles, the terminology may change from city to city as well as tradesman to tradesman. When hiring someone to texture your new house or renovation, it is best to see actual samples of drywall textures created by the tradesman who will be doing the work. This is the best way to imagine what the final product will look like on your walls.

Texture Options

Smooth
Smooth walls are exactly that... smooth. The most costly and hardest thing to do is produce smooth walls. With smooth walls we do everything we normally do but much more care has to be taken because any small nick or dent looks like a colossal failure. With this texture or lack there of, we also use a level coat which is sprayed on with a paint sprayer. After that has been applied it then gets checked once again for any imperfections.

Spray on textures

Orangepeel
A very thin drywall mud is pumped from the texture machine and paired with high air pressure, which upon exit of the texture gun splatters it into thousands of tiny droplets of drywall mud. These droplets of drywall mud land on the surface creating a texture resembling the peel of an orange, thus the name. Orangepeel is our most popular wall finish & looks great with any other texture. Also our most cost efficient wall finish. It may also be used on ceilings. We can vary the size of this texture from larger to smaller to suit your desired look.
Knockdown drywall texture by Precision Drywall in Sioux Falls.

Knockdown
A somewhat thin drywall mud is pumped from the texture machine and paired with low air pressure, as the material leaves the texture gun it immediately splatters into many small globs of mud on the drywall surface. Once the texture has set slightly, it is smoothed with a knockdown knife to produce the knockdown effect. Knockdown can be used as either a wall or ceiling texture, or both if you prefer. It does require more work to combine this texture with others and is also a bit more expensive. We can also vary the size of this texture from larger globs to smaller globs to suit your desired look.

 Hand Textures

Crows Foot drywall texture by Precision Drywall in Sioux Falls.
Crowsfoot
This texture is done by using a brush to stomp patterns of drywall mud across the surface being textured. Once the basic pattern is created a knockdown knife is used to smooth the high spots. Crowsfoot is our most cost efficient ceiling texture and also looks great paired with many wall textures. This texture can be varied some, for thinner lighter looks or heavier fuller looks.
Tuscany drywall texture by Precision Drywall in Sioux Falls.
Tuscany
A very low profile drywall texture. It can be described to appear as two smooth layers of drywall, the top layer allowing the lower layer to show through in random areas. This is caused by skimming a thin flat layer of drywall mud over a smooth drywall surface while not allowing the drywall mud to cover the entire area. This texture is becoming a more and more popular ceiling texture. It may also be varied in depth and coverage according to a preferred style. ( kind of disappears and allows attention to go elsewhere )
skip trowel drywall texture by Precision Drywall in Sioux Falls.
Skip Trowel
This texture can be described as layers of drywall mud flowing over other layers of drywall mud. It can resemble waves in water or more random circles of mud. The variation of texture style is controlled much by the thickness of the material used & the skill of the tradesman preforming the work. This texture is a bit heavier and more easily visible than Tuscany. It may also be varied in depth and coverage according to a preferred style. ( kind of draws attention but not overwhelming )
Skip trowell drag drywall texture by Precision Drywall in Sioux Falls.

Skip Trowel Drag
As implied by the name it is very similar to skip trowel. Skip trowel drag has the added feature of the look of the texture having been drug across by another trowel. This is a more visible somewhat rough texture. ( this is eye catching & attention grabbing )

Corner Bead Options

Square corner bead option from Precision Drywall in Sioux Falls
Square
Yep it's exactly what it sounds like... square. People who like changing paint colors these are for you, with their sharp corner its easy to transition from color to color. Square corners are your classic sharp look. Still the most widely used corner bead.
bullnose corner bead option from Precision Drywall in Sioux Falls
Bullnose
Bullnose is a rounded radius corner bead. If you don't like the square look, these offer a more flowing smoother look. With these corners you will most likely need to have us apply a square bottom adaptor for the base board. Or you can usually purchase wood adaptors with your trim package, whichever you / your finish carpenter  prefer. If we install the adaptors we need to know the size of the base board to accurately place them.
chamfer corner bead option from Precision Drywall in Sioux Falls

Chamfer
With chamfer corner bead you get two sharp crisp lines on every corner. The reason you get this is because it's two 45 degree corners built into one. With these corners you will most likely need to have us apply a square bottom adaptor for the base board. Or your finish carpenter can cut small pieces to form the corners for the base board. ( I'm not sure if they make wood adaptors for these or not. )
